N64 decompilation projects: a practical directory
By DecompHub · Updated · English
Start an N64 decompilation search with the original game and the release you care about. A repository may reconstruct several regional versions, focus on one build, or support a separate native port. These are related efforts with different outputs.
The official repository links below were checked on October 10, 2026. This directory deliberately links to live upstream reports instead of freezing percentages that can become stale.
Official starting points
- Super Mario 64 — n64decomp/sm64: Start with its supported versions and installation instructions. Treat a PC fork as a separate destination if your goal is native play.
- Ocarina of Time — zeldaret/oot: Read the version configuration before comparing builds. A report for a debug or regional version is not a statement about every release.
- Majora’s Mask — zeldaret/mm: Follow this project’s own documentation and report scopes, even if you already know the Ocarina of Time workflow.
- Paper Mario — pmret/papermario: Use its setup guide and target documentation to explore an N64 RPG reconstruction.
For additional projects, browse N64-related catalogue results and the n64decomp organization. A text search can miss projects described as “Nintendo 64”; try both names.
Where recompilation fits
N64Recomp translates N64 code into a form used for native executables. Zelda 64: Recompiled is a target-specific project using that approach. Recompilation is not evidence that a human-readable matching decompilation is finished. Consult each project’s supported games, input requirements and release documentation.
Choose a useful next step
For studying reconstructed code, begin with the matching repository. For playing on a modern machine, follow a port’s documented release. For contributing, confirm the operating system, toolchain and exact target before choosing a task. Original game inputs are separate requirements where upstream specifies them.
Read the work-type comparison if the labels are confusing, or the game-search workflow if your title is not listed here. Missing from this shortlist does not mean a project does not exist.
