# Does 100% decompilation mean a playable PC port?

A decompilation can reach its matching target without producing a ready-to-run PC game. The percentage describes the stated measurement; the installation and playing experience depend on additional work.

## Three different questions

**Does the reconstructed code match?** A matching project compares a build of its reconstructed source with a particular original binary. The target version and measurement scope matter. The [Super Mario 64 decompilation](https://github.com/n64decomp/sm64) is a useful place to examine version-specific build instructions.

**Is there a native port?** A port adapts the program to another environment. Input, graphics, audio, operating-system interfaces and packaging may need work beyond reconstruction. Follow the actual port's repository rather than assuming the original decompilation includes those changes.

**Is the result playable for you?** Check supported systems, release instructions and known issues. “Boots” is weaker evidence than a documented playthrough. Even a useful release may have limitations on a particular device.

## Follow the relationship between projects

[Ship of Harkinian](https://github.com/HarbourMasters/Shipwright) illustrates why a port has its own documentation and installation requirements. Read those instructions as well as the upstream reconstruction history. A directory should preserve that relationship instead of combining the two projects' progress.

Check which original files the build or release requires and obtain them through a route you are entitled to use. A source repository does not mean a project distributes the game's original content.

## Make a practical shortlist

In [DecompHub's game catalogue](https://app.decomphub.com/categories/games), compare the work type and output platform, then open the repository's release or build instructions. Keep a note of the version, available package and any relevant compatibility report.

If your goal is research, matching evidence may be the deciding factor. If your goal is playing on a PC, the maintained port and its tested behavior matter more. Use [the favorite-game search guide](/guides/find-decompilation-favorite-game) to trace the correct repository, and [the progress guide](/guides/understanding-decompilation-progress) to interpret its numbers.
